New Minneapolis teachers’ union contract will lay off white teachers first

The negotiated contract between the Minneapolis Federation of Teachers and the Minneapolis Public Schools district includes a clause that white teachers will be laid off before teachers of color, regardless of teacher effectiveness.

The Upper Midwest Law Center — a Minnesota public interest law firm — is prepared to represent educators impacted by this agreement, and shared the following statement.

Re: Racist Minneapolis Teachers Union Labor Agreement

The Upper Midwest Law Center believes the Minneapolis teachers’ union labor agreement with the Minneapolis school district is racist, discriminatory, and anti-white.

We are working to bring a lawsuit against these parties to stop this practice of targeting white teachers for lay-off by race. But, we need to identify Minneapolis taxpayers and lower-seniority white teachers to have an effective lawsuit. Please reach out to us ([email protected]) if you have contacts in those categories.

Please also contact us if you are willing to donate to our non-profit law firm so we can pursue this and other worthwhile cases, such as our successful challenge to Minneapolis police defunding. You can learn more about us on our website at www.umlc.org.
